Male Redpoll

Male Redpoll in Breeding Plumage

I was lucky to get into the garden over the weekend and start tidying up in preparation for the growing season ahead. I am always between two minds spending time there at this time of year because the birds get disturbed and may not be able to fill the reserves for the night. However as I was digging and pruning I noticed the birds became accustomed to my presence and continued feeding once they knew I was no threat. When the sun came out I decided to try to get a few new photographs. I set up the wheely bin about 3 meters from the trees and placed a wooden stool behind it. The top of the bin was a perfect tripod for the camera! Here are a couple of photographs I took.
